Nadia Mc Anuff x The Ligerians - Freedom Of Peace From The 3rd Release From The Forthcoming Album

3rd extract of the forthcoming album « Shelter from the storm » out on June 7th 2024.

Freedom of Peace is a heartfelt appeal, a call for justice and freedom in the face of powers, which refuse to hear the people, and are disinterested in the common good. On a stepper riddim by The Ligerians that blends Afrobeat colors and rhythmic accents, Nadia McAnuff‘s voice sings melodies of hope and the necessary equity demanded by peoples. Nadia McAnuff & The Ligerians deliver a strong message with a gentle, bouncy rhythm.

NADIA MC ANUFF

Launched by legendary Jamaican producer Linval Thompson, with tracks like “Words of I mooth” and “Catch dem“, Nadia Mc Anuff is a free spirit, rebel, feminist, tortured, sometimes punk, sometimes mystical…

She never hesitates to go off the beaten track, trying her hand at pop with the Canadian group “Agape“, claiming boundless admiration for Nina Simone, and playing the nayabinghi drum normally reserved for men in Jamaica. The influence of her illustrious father Winston “Electric Dread” surely has something to do with it. Above all, she has no hesitation in denouncing taboos, such as the sexual abuses and crimes that go unpunished in certain Rasta communities…

But it’s reggae that runs in her blood. And his encounter with one of the best reggae bands in France-  “The Ligerians” – was to mark a turning point in his career. A long-distance encounter during the pandemic, which resulted in the excellent single “Lockdown“, then a first visit to Europe, the recording of a very promising EP, and finally the album “Shelter from the storm”, due out next April, which is sure to get everyone talking…

SOULNURSE RECORDS
– THE LIGERIANS –

The story of The Ligerians began in Tours in 2010. After setting up the SoulNurse Records studio, the five musicians produced Reasonin’ (2012), Wevolution (2014) and Ubatuba (2016) with singer Rod Anton, a triptych of Roots Reggae albums noted for their collaborations with Vaughn Benjamin, Max Romeo and The Congos. They then teamed up with Joe Pilgrim, an active member of Dub Addict, with whom they released the album Intuitions (2015) followed by the lyrically committed EP Step Out (2017).

The Ligerians accompany Jamaican legends such as Glen Washington, Trinity and Linval Thompson on stage and in the studio, all of whom they met through the Irie Ites label. Another encounter was with Chezidek, resulting in Timeless (2020), an enlightened and humanistic album. From Protoje to Tiken Jah Fakoly, from Marcus Gad to Nai-Jah, not forgetting Alpha Steppa and, more recently, Laurent “Tippy” Alfred, The Ligerians multiply their projects. In 2022, they brought out Nadia McAnuff, daughter of Winston “Electric Dread” McAnuff, with a first EP heralding the forthcoming release of Shelter From The Storm, the latest SoulNurse Records project.
