The new video directed by Jus Hugh visualises the endless depths of Scratch and Yaadcore’s reasonings.
Grammy-winning reggae legend Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry and Grammy-nominated producer Bob Riddim present their new video for Infinity.
One of the deepest tracks from Scratch and Bob’s 2023 album Destiny, Infinity finds the dearly-missed sonic pioneer locked in a heavy lyrical reasoning with a representative of Jamaican roots music’s new vanguard, Yaadcore.
Directed by Jus Hugh, who created the visual accompaniments for previous singles Destiny and Black, the video Infinity shows Yaadcore exploring a disused railway line, interspersed with archive footage and stills of the late Upsetter. The location is significant, as both Scratch and Yaadcore reference a “midnight train” in their lyrics, reflecting on the transient nature of life.
Over Bob Riddim’s questing, sweltering production, Scratch says “Pearly gates, don’t be late” – a particularly poignant statement given that this project was one of his last works on earth.
Infinity is taken from Lee and Bob Riddim’s highly collaborative new album Destiny. Recorded in the final year of Scratch’s life, and currently garnering rave reviews around the world, Destiny is a Lee Perry album unlike any you’ve heard before.
Infinity and its accompanying video are out via Reggaeville. The Destiny album is out now via Delicious Vinyl Island.
