Letoyo
Letoyo, a child of the world with a mixed heart, grew up on La Réunion. His career began in his homeland, where he quickly made a name for himself. Encouraged by the local public and critics, he set the island’s catwalks alight when he opened for a number of internationally renowned artists.
The artist’s musical influences are varied. A strong reggae base and in the background ternary, tribal, almost rock accents, rhythms and a flow reminiscent of Tiken Jah Fakoly, Steel Pulse or Alpha Blondy bring an African note to his reggae.
Letoyo released his debut album ‘Ecoute…’ in 2009, followed by an E.P. ‘Kér métissé’ in 2013, whose eponymous song gave him significant visibility on the French reggae scene.
In 2017 Letoyo released an opus conceived in Jamaica in collaboration with the Roots Radics, ‘Simple ticket’ signed to Khanti Records and distributed by Pias.
Foodj Madrigal
Then, in 2018, he met Foodj from the Madrigal Musique label, and from there a hybrid combination of the two artists was born. Together they produced and recorded several tracks with a reggae/HipHop flavour.
The artist’s lyrics are solid and cover a wide range of themes. There are some very personal tracks, such as Rastafarianism, while others deal with the shortcomings of our society or take us on a journey.
There’s joy and positivity, something catchy and free, and it’s on stage that the artist best exudes and shares this warm energy.
The single ‘Tout Simplement Rasta‘ is the first fruit of their collaboration. Several other tracks will be released in the near future, including ‘The Conquering Lion‘ from their prolific connection.
One look behind the machines, and you immediately understand Foodj’s place as an alchemist of sound, writing and composing his productions in the tradition of hip hop and reggae. A little influenced by rap in his early days, he now works to distil his compositions across the globe.
His career officially began in 1999 with the album of his first rap group, and since then he has recorded and produced more than 20 albums on the Madrigal Musique label (which has been in operation since 2002). He has also composed and produced a host of instrumentals in collaboration with artists from New York (Tone-Z, KweenKa$h, etc.), Seattle (Tulsa, etc.) and elsewhere. .), Seattle (Tulsi), Baltimore (Mzery) for the American continent, and Jamaica for Capleton, Lutan Fyah, Sean Paul, Sizzla Kalonji, Protoje, Natty King… With Frenchmen like Maylan Manaza, Naâman, Morlone, Blacksad and Seanaboy.
A regular on stage, he has toured in France, Italy, Germany and West Africa, playing in Ghana, Togo, Senegal and Mali. He’s just as at home in a reggae sound system as behind the decks for a hip hop scratch mix.
