Etana has been no stranger to making her own music. She started Freemind Music “The Bess Records” back in 2005 before releasing her debut single “Wrong Address” and her strong follow-up “Roots”, both produced by Etana. Etana took over full-scale music production after she departed from VP Records and achieved Grammy success with 2 of her self-produced albums. “Reggae Forever” distributed by Tad’s Records and “Pamoja” distributed by Freemind Music Records.
This latest project edges on the late 90’s early 2000 Reggae Riddim Juggling style, that popularized most of the staple Reggae hits songs that are still thriving and relevant today such as Richie Spice’s “Earth a Run Red” and Morgan Heritage’s “Down by the River”. When asked about the project Etana mentions that “I feel like we in the music industry forgot how important the juggling was to the culture and how the reggae Riddims unearthed multiple messages and interpretations of several artists on 1 instrumental track. It’s a part of the culture that began long before I was born and it was rich and thriving. A lot of conscious music came from the juggling and I wanted to bring us back to that – that energy and that vibration”.
The “Freemind Riddim” features 12 tracks from a star-studded lineup of artists including Etana herself, I-Octane, Richie Spice, Lutan Fyah, Warrior King, Ginjah, Jah Sun, LawGiver, Ghanaian Reggae sensation Samini and upcoming artists Greg Gutty, Yahsha and I-Noah
